    Frequently Asked Questions

Personal protective equipment (PPE) refers to protective clothing, helmets, goggles, or other garment designed to protect the wearers body from injury by blunt impacts, electrical hazards, heat, chemicals, and infection, for job-related occupational safety and health purposes. The terms "protective gear" and "protective clothing" are in many cases interchangeable; "protective clothing" is applied to traditional categories of clothing, and "gear" is a more general term and preferably means uniquely protective categories, such as pads, guards, shields, masks, etc.

The use of personal protective equipment is to reduce employee exposure to hazards when engineering and administrative controls are not feasible or effective to reduce these risks to acceptable levels.

Mallcom Group currently provides a wide array of products certifying to EN/IS standards covering the following segments:

    • Head Protection
    • Hand Protection
    • Body Protection
    • Feet Protection
    • Fall Protection

A helmet is designed so that the energy released during impact is absorbed by the partial destruction of the cap and the harness. Users must pay careful attention not to remove or modify any of the original parts of the helmet, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

The helmet should be worn slightly tilted to the front, and should be adapted or adjusted to the size of the wearers head.

Life expectancy is influenced by a number of factors including cold, heat, chemical products, the suns rays, and care.

Today, it has been proven that noise can have serious harmful physiological effects. Noise is harmful to health. If our basic sense of hearing is neglected, we are exposed to consequences which can be dramatic and irreversible.

Different types of hand gloves are developed to take care of different industrial hazards. We do have a large range of hand gloves specifically designed and crafted for use in different industries. Starting from Leather to Knitted, Nitrile to Latex, PVC to PU coated, specialty gloves for handling cryogens... we have a solution for all.

The standard time duration is of approx 12-15 seconds. The lesser the heat, the higher would be the duration.

We manufacture varieties of protective clothing starting from coverall to industrial jackets/trousers, medical jackets/aprons, culinary uniforms to Fire Retardant (FR) dresses etc. These are available in different color shades and on different fabric composition like 100% cotton or 60/40 Polyester-Cotton.

Safety shoes are those which are designed, and are equipped with safety toe caps designed to withstand a maximum impact of 200 joules and crushing up to 15 kN. These shoes meet to the EN345-1 standard.

Protective shoes are designed, and are equipped with safety toe caps designed to withstand a maximum impact of 100 joules and crushing up to 10 kN. These shoes meet the EN346-1 standard.

Shoes which are different from safety/protective footwear and have no protective toe cap for impact and crushing are called as Occupational shoes. These shoes meet the EN347-1 standard.

It is a device designed to attach a person to a point of anchorage in order to prevent him/her from falling from a height or to stop the fall safely.

Personal protective equipment designed to prevent falls from a height must necessarily incorporate the following three elements:

The body-holding device (Full Body Harness) Fall Arresters (Guided type/Anchorage lines/Energy Absorbent/Retractable type) Connectors (Anchorage Devices)

Being a category-3 product, one needs to check that all the components of the system adhere to the respective EN norms and are CE certified. Using non-certified products can be fatal.

Specialists in construction industry, professionals, industrial maintenance professionals wherever there is a risk of exposure to the different hazards present in that environment, people must use PPE. Masons, roofers, plasterers, woodworkers, plumbers, HVAC personnel, metalworkers, electricians, painters, assemblers, thermal technicians, cable installers, coppersmiths, pipe fitters, etc...all of them should have proper PPE while doing their respective works in strict accordance to the PPE usage guidelines issued by the competent authority.

In general terms, head protection gear refers to products like Helmet, Eye wear (Glasses & Goggles), Face Masks, Ear Plug & Ear Muffs etc.

Helmet maintenance must be kept up extremely regularly. It is important to realize that any helmet which has been hit, cracked or left exposed too long in the back of the car can lose a significant degree of its effectiveness. It is recommended that you replace any helmet which has been hit hard.

One should take proper care and maintenance while using a safety eye-wear by doing the followings:

Change the glass in the event of scratches, breaking or pitted surface, wash the glass with soap and water, taking care not to scratch the glass store the goggles in a rigid case (if possible).

There are three different types of filtering half-masks that are available and widely used across the industries namely P1, P2 & P3. These disposable masks are generally found either in flat foldable type or in conical shape.

One of the best ways to tackle radiant heat up to 400 deg Celsius is by using Kevlar® gloves. These gloves come in different formats, either in knitted or with leather cover with Kevlar® sewn inside.

    No.

Globally asbestos is banned as because breathing in asbestos fibers exposes man to serious pulmonary illness and to cancers, which often appear long after being exposed to such fibers. It is easy to reach the level of asbestos fiber concentration in the air required to cause such illness during grinding, impact, vibration and friction, for the filaments which make up asbestos fibers come off easily and form clouds of dust.

One of the easily available materials which can replace asbestos is Kevlar® which by virtue of its intrinsic property has a good resistance to radiant heat.

There are host of optional features that can be put onto a garment like corporate logo, Deptt name etc. in the form of embroidered lettering, direct embroidery, screen printing, heat transfers etc.

Ideally a safety shoe should meet the parameters as mentioned in EN-345 norm. In India, in addition to EN-345, IS-15298 is often referred to evaluate a safety shoe.

Ideally one should use a full-body harness while working at a height.
